What Does Your TFT Monitor Show You?

Friday January 8, 2010

What do you see when you switch your TFT computer monitor on? Do you see a nice tidy desktop – or is it a complete mess of files and shortcuts all over the place?

Just as we tidy everything else up from time to time, so we have to do the same with our desktops as well. And if you are thinking of buying a new TFT monitor for your existing computer it provides you with the perfect time to do just that.

For starters you can think about whether your wallpaper suits your needs. This is the image that appears behind all those icons you use. Everyone has their own ideas about what makes good wallpaper, but it can be good to change it every now and then.

But wallpaper is the least of your concerns if you have a mass of links, folders and other items cluttering up your desktop. For starters, think about how easily you can locate what you need when you need it. If it takes some time to find what you want, it is probably best to set time aside to clear up your desktop. If you have lots of individual documents sitting there perhaps you could think about putting them in two or three main folders according to your needs.

Similarly you should ask yourself how much of what is on your desktop really needs to stay there. For example, when you download something from the internet or create a new document, it is tempting to simply put it on your desktop to begin with. You then tell yourself you will file it later on.

But of course this doesn’t always happen. You end up leaving it on your desktop and forgetting to file it. And once you have done that a few times your desktop is back to looking untidy again.

So make a resolution for the New Year to tidy up your desktop once in a while. Perhaps a monthly basis would be good to begin with. You will be able to figure out how you use your computer to save and locate files as well, and that could lead to a more efficient way of using it.

But regardless of when you get a new TFT computer monitor, why not take this opportunity to look at what you have now? Is it tidy or does it leave a lot to be desired? The answer will reveal what you should do next.
