Is Your TFT Monitor Clean?

Sunday September 13, 2009

There is nothing better than the clean screen you get when you first unpack your new TFT monitor and get it set up on your desk.

But of course we all know that it doesn’t stay that way for very long. Dust, dirt, sticky fingerprints and more all get onto that nice screen and very soon it is left looking a bit the worse for wear.

So what can you do about it? Well for starters regular cleaning is in order to make sure that it stays looking as good as new for as long as possible. It will also help to keep the screen looking nice and clean, and you will find it much nicer to look at.

For starters you cannot just clean it like you would anything else in your home. A TFT monitor is a very delicate piece of equipment, so be sure to treat it with the respect it deserves. For starters you should really try not to touch the display at all, as this will prevent it from becoming covered in your fingerprints right from the start. If anyone else uses your computer make sure they know about this rule as well. Some might think you are being touchy, but if you gently explain that doing so can actually harm the display in the long run, they might be more willing to keep their hands off it!

There are of course lots of screen cleaners available which you can buy from computer stores and websites. Some people think these are a bit of a con, but don’t be fooled into thinking that. These wipes are created with TFT screens and monitors in mind, so they do not contain anything which could cause any harm to your screen.

You will notice that they are also moist rather than being wet. Very little moisture is contained in them compared to what you would have on a cloth that you wrung out. Depending on how dirty your TFT screen is, you might need more than one cloth to clean it properly. Although if you keep up with your cleaning chores you should find that one is enough!

You can also buy a number of cleaning cloths and pads that are dry. Nowadays there is a nice line in novelty cleaners that makes life easier when it comes to having a constant reminder of your cleaning chores. We have seen cleaning pads built into the tummies of toy animals. You will find that they are great for hanging on the top of your computer so you can clean your screen every now and again.

These make great gifts of course, but why not give one to yourself as a reminder to keep the dust off your screen? They don’t cost very much and they are a nice way of personalising your computer as well.

Finally, don’t forget the base of your screen either. This should also be cleaned to prevent any settling dust from being kicked up and attaching itself to the actual screen.
