Is The Cheapest TFT Monitor The Best?

Tuesday September 1, 2009

Everything comes at a price nowadays, and the same applies to TFT monitors. But the trouble with any type of computer equipment is that you need to think about what you are getting for your money. For example a more expensive computer is likely to have more memory and more in the way of features than a basic starter computer.

But if that is the case, should you be looking at a cheap TFT monitor or should you be looking to spend a lot more money?

It is easy to think about the screen as being the most basic part of the whole computer. And it is easy to see how this thought has come about. After all, all that is required is to turn it on and then look at it when you are surfing the internet or typing a document.

But is that really all there is to it?

There is a lot that is worth learning in layman’s terms when it comes to buying a new TFT screen. For example, you will read a lot about resolution in the specifications for various screens. The resolution simply refers to the pixels that a screen has. The higher the resolution is, the more pixels it will have over the whole of the screen. This is relevant because those screens which have a lower resolution won’t give you as good a picture as the higher resolution ones.

Some people make the mistake of thinking that all monitors are pretty much the same. And because of that they spot a nice cheap TFT monitor and think they have got a bargain.

But of course the quality of the screen may not be as good. Ideally you should try and view various screens when they are turned on before you buy anything. This might sound obvious but some retailers provide them for display without turning them on. They might look lovely as they are but it is the display you are interested in!

Incidentally this is a good point worth noting if you are going to buy your monitor online. Try and make sure you can ‘see it in action’, so to speak, before you make your purchase. This will ensure you aren’t disappointed when it arrives at your home and you plug it in.

You can do a lot with a cheaper monitor though if you take the time to ensure it is set up correctly with your computer. Always be sure to read all the instructions that come with it – even if you think you know how it should be installed with your system. This will ensure that you can get it up and running as quickly as possible and without any delays.

For the most part more expensive monitors are better than cheaper ones. But if your needs are only very basic you can get by perfectly happily with a cheaper TFT monitor. It all depends on what you expect from it and what you are happy with.
