Let’s face it, TFT computer monitors aren’t the most exciting looking things are they? Obviously they are designed to show you the pages you find on the internet, as well as displaying documents and anything else you might need to look at on your computer. But can you make them a little more interesting?
The good news is that you can. There are several ways of doing this, so let’s start with those that involve the screen itself. Here we are talking about screensavers and backgrounds.
For example, do you have a favourite film or television programme? Most people do, and most of the time some of the fans will have created screensavers and backgrounds to tie in with the programmes themselves. If there is an official website for the programme or film check that out first – there are often official downloads you can get free of charge.
So that is the screen image taken care of. Now what about the rest of your computer?
In the lead up to Christmas you may find yourself wondering how you can decorate your home. Why not decorate your computer too by putting USB fairy lights around your computer monitor? You can often get these in various colours and you don’t have to restrict them to the seasonal time of the year either. Why not use them any time you like to brighten up your display?
If you feel like getting a little more adventurous you can even build a new surround to house your monitor in. Not everyone likes the ultra modern feel of a computer monitor, and one or two people have resorted to creating a wooden surround to go around it. It’s not too difficult to find details of these projects online.
This has plenty of benefits because you could paint or finish it however you like. You can appeal to your creative side and come up with something totally unique. You could build pen holders into the sides and perhaps a narrow shelf to add to the top or bottom. Anything goes when it is your own design!
There is also a nice range of computer toppers that you could buy to accessorise your monitor. These come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, some of which are more practical than others. For example the i-Buddy flashes and moves whenever you are signed in to your messaging service and a friend comes online and has a message for you. Other computer toppers are simply appealing characters that make your monitor look a bit more interesting.
Some would argue that only practical items are worth having, and there is a good deal of truth in that. Some monitor cleaners are designed almost as soft toys, and these can be draped over the top of your screen, ready to use whenever you need them.
But whichever ones you decide to opt for, your monitor will certainly look more eye catching than it would otherwise. Is it time you went shopping for something?
